The Priesthood
Chosen from among men (H) 5:1
- Must be bestowed by God, not self-appointed (H) 5:3
Mediates a covenant between God and Men (H) 5:1, 9:15, 19
- Offers gifts and sacrifices for sins (H) 5:1
- Understands sinners' weaknesses (H) 5:2
- Serves in a place of holiness (H) 9:2-10
Jesus
Levitical Priests
Appointed by God - on an oath (H) 7:21Tribe of Judah (shouldn't be a priest?) (H) 7:14
- Order of Melchizedek (H) 5:6, 10 6:20
Priest permanently - will never die (H) 7:24 Holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, exalted above the heavens (H) 7:27 One offering only, himself, (H) 9:12, 25-28

We need to hold fast to the faithwithout waveringbc he who promised is faithfulencourage each other - good worksmeet together to encourage each otherEndure, so whendone the will of Godreceive what is promisedBY FAITH
We can enter God's presencehow -confidently with true heart in full assurance of faith having hearts sprinkled clean by the blood of Jesusthrough a new way opened through the curtain because we have a great high priest
By FAITH they
Others - conquered kingdoms enforced justice obtained promises closed the mouths of lions quenched the power of fire escaped the sword made strong in weakness mighty in war put enemies to retreat received back loved ones from the dead Were tortured, not accepting release, so they would live forever suffered mocking and flogging, chains and imprisonment were stoned were sawn in two killed lived in skins of sheep & goats, destitute, mistreated wandered in deserts, mountains, dens and cavas Were commended through their faith but did not receive what was promised on EARTH
Able - offered acceptable sacrifice --righteous Enoch - taken up, didn't die, b/c he had pleased God Noah - built the ark, saved his family, condemned the world, became an heir of righteousness Abraham - followed, without a map or destination, lived in tents, looking forward to God's city Sarah - conceived a son when she couldn't Abraham -offered up Isaac, his only heir Isaac - blessed Jacob and Esau Jacob - blessed Joseph's sons Joseph - foretold the exodus and gave instruction about his ultimate burial Moses' parents - saved Moses Moses - rejected Pharoh's riches, obeyed Passover, led the Exodus Israelites - crossed-red sea, saw Jericho fall, Rahab - saved the spies and herself
Our Examples....
By FAITH we...
Are equipped with everything good, so we might do his will working in us, that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ,to whom be glory forever and ever. Will be commended for our faith knowing we will receive what was promised in HEAVEN
Lay aside - every weight, and sinRun with endurance - the race set before us Look to Jesus - the founder and perfecter of our faith- for joy - endured the cross, despising the shame -who is seated at the right hand of GodConsider Him - so we do not grow wearyWill endure discipline - because we are sons - be trained by it - have peaceful fruit of righteousness Strive for peace - with everyone Reject bitterness and immorality Come to - Mt. Zion - City of the living God - heavenly Jerusalem - innumerable angels - assembly of the firstborn, enrolled in heaven - God, judge of all - Jesus, our mediator
