La storia di Falerii Veteres oggi Civita Castellana,coincide con quella dei Falisci, una popolazione di lingua simile al latino, che gravitava culturalmente tra le città arcaiche della Valle del Tevere degli etruschi. L'influenza etrusco-ellenica sulla civiltà falisca è riscontrabile dalla scrittura della lingua falisca, di origine proto-Latina con influenza etrusca.
