What is it? To help with the costs of a course at a college or training provider in England. You can apply for up to 4 loans and you can get more than one at the same time. How much you get depends on: the type of course, your course fees, the maximum loan available for your course. It only covers your course fees, not your living costs. The minimum loan you can get is £300 and it’s paid directly to your college or training provider. You do not have to borrow the full cost of your course - you can pay for some of it yourself.Who is it for ?Before you apply for an Advanced Learner Loan Check if you’re eligible Whether you qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan depends on your: age, course, college or training provider, nationality or residency status.

You must be 19 or older on the first day of your course. Your course must be: A Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 qualification, for example A Levels or Graduate Certificate and at an approved college or training provider in England

When you repay your loanYou’ll have to start Repaying your Loan when your income is over a certain amount (the ‘threshold’ amount). You’ll be charged interest from the day you get the first payment.

Cost Waivered Use this loan to get onto an access to higher education course If you go on to study at degree level at university (fee paid/ student loan) then the adult loaner loan will get waivered

You can choose to make Extra repayments towards your loan. These are in addition to the repayments you must make when your income is over the threshold amount and are not compulsory.

We have a wide range of courses available and are adding new ones everyday. With over 10 partnership providers it is difficult to provide a comprehensive list of which courses are available, however you can find a non-exhaustive list of courses on the training ideas page to get an idea on what to pursue.

Many providers within our partnership offer several courses at a time. Due to the high demand of learning and development from colleagues, we may not be able to secure a space on your ideal course. If this issue arises, we will work with you to find another suitable course or secure a space in a later session - pending approval from your line manager.

There are two options for payment: 1) Payment by invoice which is to be sent to the Workforce Development Team for processing 2) Upfront payment by staff members, with reimbursement through the Easy Expenses System If you have any questions regarding payment please respond via your DWP request

How much funding you are entitled too changes depending on your circumstances. The Workforce Development Team will discus this with you when you contact them.

Access to funding for education development can be complicated during periods of Leave. If you have Prearranged funding and then find yourself needing to go off Sick, Maternity or any other leave then a discussion would have to take place with HR, your Manager and the L&D team to determine a plan for you.
