In 2006, Nolan created the movie The Prestige with his brother. With the movie, he showed his complex notion of time and the darkness of his movie. In 2010, he released Inception, one of his most acclaimed movies, where he also develop the notion of time. Interstellar, released in 2014, Dunkirk, released in 2017 and Tenet (2020) also explores this notion of time.

Nolan was born on July 30, 1970 in London. His father was a creative director for advertisement and his mother was an English teacher. He also has two brothers, Matthew, the eldest, and Jonathan, the youngest, who is also a movie director. He has been interested by cinema since he was very young, especially by Sci-fi (with movies like Star Wars or 2001: A Space Odyssey). He made a lot of short films when he was a kid with his brother. He debuted his career with his first long film Following in 1998. But it is only in 2000 that he started to become famous with his film Memento.

He doesn't have a phone or an email. On set, he always has a flask of hot tea with him. He prefers real effects instead of CGI. He never studied cinema. 2023: 8 out of 12 films directed by Nolan are on IMDb's Top 250, making him the most represented director on the list.
