A Growth Mindset is...
According to Psychology.com, a growth mindset, as conceived by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck and colleagues, is the belief that a person's capacities and talents can be improved over time. When we have a growth mindset, we learn patient skills for achieving our goals later on in our career, life, etc.
What Having a "Growth Mindset" Means
This video describes what a growth mindset is and how it coinsides with patience. Question to think about: What is something you could do to improve your growth mindset?
"Patience is to be calm no matter what happens, constantly take action to turn it to positive growth opportunities, and have faith to believe that it will all work out in the nd while you wait."
- Roy T. Bennett, Author of "The LIght in the Heart"
What are triggers?
02
What pushes my buttons?
A trigger on our patience can feel like "your buttons are being pushed". Triggers can be external factors such as a co-worker chewing loud or internal factors such as not getting enough sleep. Question: What are some external and internal factors that test your patience?

Stepping away can allow us to keep our cool if we are becoming inpatient.Knowing your triggers will allow you to stay more in control of our patience. Try: - Journaling
- Talking to an unbiased person about the situation
- Take a quick walk (brain break)
Deep breathing has been proven to help support our nervous system and gives more oxygen to our minds. Where to start: - Rainbow Breathing
- Belly Breathing
- Counting Breaths
- 6 in and 6 out
Padlet is one of my favorite cites that I used when I was a teacher. It allows you to see in real-time what others are thinking. Looking back on the things we discussed today, what will you use in the future that will allow you to stay patient in the workplace?
Expression
HOW WILL YOU USE WHAT YOU LEARNED IN THE FUTURE?
Take time to really listen to others: - Ask open-ended questions
- Eye contact
- Notice non-verbal cues
- Paraphrasing what you heard
Even though this video is geared toward children, it is still important for us to know when to take a break. We can become inpatient with the different parts of our days. Doing an activity like this allows our brains to take a break and to remember that some things are out of our control. At the end of the day, we can control OURSELVES.

TAKE A STEP BACK
In life, there are many things we can't control.Changing our expecations or accepting there are things out of our control. "Boss My Body"
I used this type of breathing with my student who had special needs. If they would get inpatient about not understanding a skill, we would stop and say, "I do not understand this topic, YET." The power of yet allows us to be patient with ourselves! Give yourself some grace and BREATH.
