AUTOMATION
How it works
AUTOMATION ≠ MECHANISATION
In Mechanisation --> Machines replace human workers In Automation --> Machines replace human workers + machines are self-controlled
'machines are self-controlled'
What does it mean??
It means that machines: 1. Control their output 2. Compare it with the standards 3. Adjust their performance
ADJUSTMENT
It consists of 3 steps: 1. Measurement 2. Evaluation 3. Control
2.Evaluation
A computer evaluates the measured information and decides if requires corrective action, comparing it with the standards.
3 steps of ADJUSTMENT
3.Control
1.Measurement
If there is difference between the standard and the measured information, the computer activates the controller to modify the performance towards standards.
The automated system uses sensors to measure the physical variables: dimension, weight, temperature, pressure, colour, eletrical resistance.
