1700
The 17th century, thanks to King Louis XIV, the “Sun King,” there is the birth of court ballet. In the 18th century there was a fusion of dance, singing and acting = opera-ballet In 1661 Louis XIV founded the Académie Royale de Danse, which became the center of dance codification. Ballet schools were founded in many European cities, and dance became an important part of the theater culture of the time. The innovations introduced in this century paved the way for the great developments of romantic and classical ballet in the following centuries.
“La Fille mal gardée” was created in 1789, just days before the French Revolution, by French choreographer Jean Dauberval. This ballet was innovative for several reasons: 1. “La Fille mal gardée” focused on country life and simple characters such as peasants 2. Comic spirit 3. Original choreography and music: The original “La Fille mal gardée” was choreographed by Dauberval to popular music and well-known songs of the time.

Coppelia
It is a unique ballet because it combines the virtuosic technique of classical ballet with comic and narrative elements. Unlike many other romantic ballets of the time, which tended to have a dramatic or supernatural tone, Coppélia is distinguished by its lightness and comedy.Among the main themes are: 1. Love and deception: The ballet explores the amorous misunderstandings between Swanhilda and Franz 2. The relationship between reality and illusion: Coppélia represents a fusion of the real and the imaginary 3. Coppelius: the inventor, represents a scientist-alchemist figure Coppelia is a ballet that, although born in the Romantic era, represents a jewel of lightness and humour, combined with technique and expressiveness. It is a celebration of dance and theatrical storytelling

La Sylphide
“La Sylphide” is a supernatural love story that explores themes of longing, loss and tension between the real and imaginary worlds. The plot takes place in Scotland and is divided into two acts.“La Sylphide” embodies many of the central themes of romantic ballet, such as: 1. Impossible love: James falls in love with a supernatural creature, but this love cannot be consummated. The sylph represents an unattainable ideal that cannot be fulfilled in reality. 2. The contrast between the real world and the supernatural world: the ballet contrasts ordinary, earthly life with the magical, ethereal realm of the sylphs. 3. The figure of the ethereal woman: the sylph is the embodiment of the romantic female ideal, an angelic and light creature, almost a dream. The technique of pointe dancing, developed by Marie Taglioni, emphasizes this lightness, making the dancer appear to be suspended in the void.

Ballet d'action
Characteristics of the ballet d'action 1. Narration through movement: dance tells a complete story without singing. 2. Expression of feelings: expressing all human emotions. 3. Overcoming technical virtuosity as an end in itself: puts the focus on narrative and expressiveness. Did not mean that technique was overlooked 4. Unified choreography: choreography, music, set design and costumes - were closely integrated.

Giselle
It is based on a literary work by Heinrich Heine, combines romantic themes such as love, betrayal and the supernatural, and presents one of the most coveted and challenging roles for a ballerina. Giselle' embodies many of the central themes of romantic ballet 1. Impossible love: The love between Giselle and Albrecht is doomed because of their social class differences. The ballet emphasises the power of love, even beyond death. 2. The supernatural and the spirit world: The second act, 'White Act', is one of the iconic moments of romantic ballet, with the Villi, ethereal female spirits, representing vengeance and otherworldly justice. 3. Redemption and sacrifice: The sacrifice of Giselle, who chooses to forgive Albrecht despite his betrayal, is an example of pure and selfless love. 4. The contrast between real and imaginary: Similar to other romantic ballets such as 'La Sylphide', 'Giselle' contrasts the earthly world with a supernatural, imaginary world, creating dramatic tension.
