Where?

Euskal Herria is an autonomous community located in the north of Spain and also takes part in the French Pyrenees.

The Basque Country is made up of 7 regions or provinces: Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, Araba, Navarra, Lapurdi, Behe Nafarroa and Zuberoa.

Guipuzkoa

°Capital: Donostia°Beaches: Ondarreta, Concha and Zurriola°Igeldo Mountain

Bizkaia

°Capital: Bilbao°Guggenheim: it's known because of its architecture and contemporary art collection°Pintxos

NAFARROA

°Capital: Iruña°Annual running of bulls (San Fermin).It is a tradition to wear: - A white shirt - White trousers- A red kerchief

°Capital: Vitoria-Gasteiz°Some of the best preserved medieval streets°Two cathedrals°Gasteiz is the green city of the Basque Country

Both of them are known because of their beautiful views to the Pyrenees.

French Basque Country

We have three regions in the French territory; known as French Basque Country or Northen Basque Country.

We are studying 1st of Batxilergoa, that would be 5th grade in Belgium Even if our school is in Tolosa, all students come from many different villages We start school at 8:00 and we finish school at 15:05, 7 lessons. We are divided in two study paths: Sciences and Humanities

The history:

Our language is Euskara.--- we are "Euskaldun" Roots of Euskara? Who knows them? It's one of the oldest language in the world and the oldest in Europe. During Francoism, the dictador Franco banned the use of Euskara.

Number of speakers: 800.000Euskara Batua is a unified form of the language but there are 7 general dialects.Basque does not distinguish genders and uses no accents.There is an international day of the Basque language: 3rd December.There are currently over 400,000 articles in Basque on Wkipedia.
