He met his first paraplegic patient

He started his medical studies at the University of Breslau
1937
The British government asked him to establish the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital .
1943
He organised the first Stoke Mandeville Games for disabled war veterans
1945
With the arrival of the Nazis in power, Guttmann was assigned to work at the Breslau Jewish Hospital, where he became medical director
First Paralympic games
-He believed that sport was an important method of therapy for the rehabilitation of injured military personnel, helping them build up physical strength and self-respectThe first paralimpics were realised in 1960 during the Summer Olympics in Rome.-In 1961, Guttmann founded the International Medical Society of Paraplegia.-Guttmann died of a heart attack in 1980.
