Where is this language located?
Cherokee, known as Tsalagie, is a Native American language primarily spoken by the Cherokee Nation, which is located in Oklahoma. The Cherokee people inhabited regions in the southeastern United States, including North Carolina and Georgia. Today, the language is classified as critically endangered, with only a few thousand fluent speakers left, mostly among older generations. Common words in Cherokee include "Osiyo" (hello), "Wado" (thank you), and "Ahyu" (I love you). The language faces endangerment due to a decline in intergenerational transmission, as many young people do not learn it. Factors contributing to this decline include urbanization, cultural assimilation, and limited access to educational resources in the language. Efforts are ongoing to revitalize Cherokee, with community initiatives aiming to teach it to younger generations
