Today's meeting will guide you through some revision strategies. Without making any edits (save that for 2nd drafting session), we will focus on identifying areas that need improvement by discussing three revision strategies with methods and benefits for each. Invitation to connect

Closure

Think about what you want your audience to do after reading your summary. An invitation to connect is a great way to end, but depending on your goal, you may ask for something else. Be specific and you’ll be more likely to get what you want.

NARROWING - get more specific about your goals

Benefits:

  • Clearer Direction: provides clear understanding, reducing confusion and increasing the likelihood of response.
  • Targeted Engagement: attract the right people—whether it’s potential employers, collaborators, or clients—who are aligned with your goals.
  • Stronger Impact: more personalized and relevant, making it more compelling and effective in motivating the audience to act.

Revision Quiz

Networking: "Let’s connect! Feel free to reach out if you’d like to grow your network." Purpose: Encourages professional connections for networking and relationship building. Job-Seeking: "I'm currently exploring new opportunities in [industry/field]. If you’re hiring, I’d love to chat!" Purpose: Signals openness to job opportunities and invites potential employers or recruiters to engage. Collaboration: "I’m always looking for exciting new projects. If you have an idea or collaboration in mind, let's connect!" Purpose: Invites potential collaborators or clients to initiate project discussions.

Narrowing

Etiquette

  • Only invite people that you personally know and who know you.
  • Only invite those you'd recommend to others.
  • Personalize your invitation message.
  • Be sure to explain how you know them or why you want to connect.
  • Add a current picture of yourself to your profile so people recognize you.

1.) Highlight Descriptions: Identify (circle, highlight, underline, etc) areas that are overly "told" and rewrite them to "show" through action, dialogue, or sensory details. 2.) Use Vivid Imagery: Strengthen descriptions with more specific, sensory language. Try adding adjectives to your development section to make it more narrative. *sensory - sights, smells, tastes, sounds, tactile/touch, feelings/emotions

Choose a different consideration / prompt from your first draft. Then apply a brainstorming activity to generate ideas. Try webbing/mapping, bulleting/listing, or freewriting for 3-5 minutes.
