Samirah (Sam) asks Magnus to meet her to discuss something urgent involving life and death. She’s exhausted from balancing school, Valkyrie duties, and flight lessons, but has critical information to share.

Before Sam can reveal the information, she gets a call about a heroic death in progress and flies off, leaving Magnus to wait for her informant, promising he’ll recognize the person when they arrive.

Magnus is surprised when Sam’s informant turns out to be Otis, a magical goat he recognizes. Otis is dressed incognito in a trench coat, hat, and sunglasses.

Otis explains that Thor’s hammer is still missing, and he has a lead on its location. The hammer’s absence is a dangerous secret, as Thor’s enemies would exploit it if they knew.

Otis reveals that the hammer might be in a wight’s barrow (an undead creature’s tomb) in Provincetown, guarded by powerful magic. He stresses the importance of retrieving it before Thor's enemies find out.

Otis mentions that someone has been stalking him, potentially threatening their mission to recover the hammer. This raises the stakes as Magnus becomes concerned about their safety.

Suddenly, Otis is struck by an ax, killing him instantly. Magnus realizes they are being targeted, and that their enemies are closer than they thought.

Magnus spots the assassin, a figure in black with a metal helmet, and immediately gives chase, determined to find out who is responsible for killing Otis and prevent further danger.
