People facing multiple disadvantage often encounter a range of challenges and have contact with a number of services. However, services often work in isolation and consequently people don't always get the right support that they need. Services need to collaborate, share information appropriately and take a holistic approach.

Multiple disadvantage is a term used to reflect multiple and intersecting systemic inequalities faced by individuals, such as:
Domestic and/or sexual abuse
Removal of children
Homelessness
Mental ill health
Poverty & socio-economic inequality
Involvement with the criminal justice system
Sexual exploitation and/ or prostitution
Substance misuse
Additional barriers such as gender inequality, homophobia, racism, disability, social stereotypes, legislation and service provision, can impact on people and the ways in which they can access support.
