Actions you might take:
- Liaise with Local Planning Authority enforcement
- Contact landowner/developer and inform them that no further works must be undertaken in the scheduled monument.
- Seek further information on nature of development
- Seek further archaeological information on impacts (e.g. metal detecting of spoil mounds outside scheduled monument or with Section 42 licence in the scheduled monument, archaeological evaluation beside the constructed driveway to test whether development impacts below ploughsoil (can be done just outside the scheduled monument).
- Not fully clear at this stage as works may be within ploughsoil only with some limited deeper works and therefore impacts on in situ archaeology may be limited.
- Currently looks like only small part of SM affected. SM shape indicates this is the ditch.
- Ploughsoil will be displaced with the artefacts it contains. Could have been removed from site or spread on land adjacent. Therefore loss of remains or may confuse archaeological record.
- Degree of harm and no public benefit.

Breaking News
You have confirmed that the works don’t have planning permission. You have asked for some assistance from National Services to understand extent of monument. They have flown the site and mapped the principal feature which suggests that it extends beyond the scheduled area including the area of works.
