The Culture War’s Impact on Public Schools

political attacks that challenge inclusive curricula and create division in communities.

A recent national study provides specifics about how widespread and increasing political disputes affect education. Nearly half of schools stated that it was difficult to teach about racial issues, racism, and the laws and procedures pertaining to the rights of LGBTQ students. Attempts to restrict students' access to school library books and social and emotional learning were mentioned by one-third of the participants(Walker, 2023). Conflicts frequently arise from deliberate, concerted initiatives to target more politically diverse groups.

  • Educators face challenges in promoting meaningful, productive, and respectful dialogue about race and equity, requiring creativity, insight, and empathy. Support is needed to prevent public education from reluctance to protect democracy(Walker, 2023).
Fifth Grade History & Language Arts (Four Days Activity)
  • Step 1: Teacher introduce Article and its content.
  • Step 2: Students pair read the article.
  • Step 3: Whole Group: Review the article/summarize through discussion
  • Step 4: Break the students up into small groups
  • Step 5: Half of the small groups will create a digital presentation on the "pros"of teaching about racial issues, racism, and the laws pertaining to the rights of LGBTQ students & the other half will create a presentation on the "cons" in teaching these content subjects. At the end of each presentation students will need to provide a soluation to resolve this divide on this topic/article.
  • Step 6: On the fourth day, students will present their presentations.
  • The internet and digital databases offer students extensive information for research and collaboration, enabling them to explore their questions and hypotheses both within and outside the classroom(J, 2023).
  • Technology aids students in data analysis and visualization, enhancing understanding and communication of complex information, and in creating simulations and models for exploring complex systems and phenomena(J, 2023).
  • Inquiry-based learning is a self-directed teaching method that encourages active exploration of concepts. Tools like MindMeister, Google Docs, and Padlet enhance this approach, providing visual organization, collaboration, and engagement for students(J, 2023).
  • Technology enables students to create multimedia presentations and digital stories, enhancing learning through virtual field trips and remote experts(J, 2023).
Digital tools or resources for classroom

Assessment tools facilitate the evaluation and assessment of students' learning and offer alternatives for assessing students outside of the conventional exam setting. There are numerous tools accessible, such as surveys, polling in the classroom, peer and self evaluation, plagiarism detection, and grading rubrics(Rusconi, 2024).
