The compass rose tells us where you are (at the north, south, east or west).
A world map is a flat representation of the Earth.

Parallels are the imaginary horizontal lines that go around the Earth. The most important is the Equator because divides the Earth into the northern and southern hemisphere. Parallels measure the distance to the north (N) or south (S) in degrees.
Meridians are the vertical imaginary lines that go from the North Pole to the South Pole. They measure the distance in degrees to the east or west of the prime meridian (0º) or Greenwich Meridian.
A physical map shows natural features (mountains, mountain ranges, oceans, seas, rivers or lakes)
A street map has symbols for places of interest (markets, museums, parks stations, hospitals)

The Equator. It divides the Earth into two hemispheres: the northern and the southern.
A political map shows continents, countries, regions, cities and the borders between countries.
