The atmosphere had significantly more arbon dioxide than it did oxygen (20% less oxygen and 4 time more carbon than today). This was due to the increased activity of valcanoes durig this time. Pangea was around at this time and the lands were very hot and dry with different environments like forests, desertsand praries. During this time the ancestors of today's reptiles began to emerge along with the first dinosaurs like the pterosaur ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs.

- The word "Triassic" comes from the three layers of rock strata that were laid down during this period.
- Conifers dominated the lands at the start of the Triassic period but ferns took over in the middle of the Triassic period.
- The only new insect to emerge was the grasshopper, scorpions, spiders, millipedes and centipedes survived the previous extinction.
- Volcanic activity in the Atlantic Ocean is assumed to have been the cause of the global extinction event that marked the end of the Triassic Period.
The greatest event of the Triassic period was the appearance of the first dinosaurs, which signaled the start of their rule on Earth. This happened after the catastrophic Permian-Triassic extinction event, which destroyed most of the planet's life at the beginning of the Triassic period. This extinction was caused by massive volcanic eruptions that produced greenhouse gases like carbon doixide and methane that warmed up the Earth. This reduced the oxygen in the ocean and made it acidic. In addition, the Triassic period saw the beginning of the breakup of the supercontinent Pangea.
