You've got this!
into a 50 minute class
Tips for Success:
- Give yourself grace. It is year one with this curriculum. Do not overload yourself by creating presentations; use Edio where you can.
- Stick to a routine so your students know what is expected during guided sessions.
- Building community: open your room up 10 minutes before or leave it open 10 minutes after class for learners to chat/socialize.
- Consider assigning a learner as your "tech person" to share links in the chat when learners join guided sessions.
- Remember, you do not have to copy and paste EVERYTHING from the Edio lesson into your presentation for guided sessions; you are the experts as to what your students need to know and how to get them there!
- Key vocabulary- are you reading over these or providing an opportunity for learners to engage
- Cover the content aligned with the standards and learning targets
- Use your discretion as to which questions in edio you want to pull into your presentation that can be used for "temperature checks" to gauge learner understanding and progress
- Allot time for learner discourse and formative assessment throughout your instruction
Things you need to hit in edio:
- It is okay to change the questions and use none of them from edio.
- If you want to ask something else or add a deeper or more critical question, that is okay and perfectly fine.
- If you do that, make sure it still aligns with the S&S, Lesson Objectives, and State Standards.
Word Work: 10 minutes
Reading: 20-30 minutes
Writing: 20-30 minutes
On your own time!: remainder of class
Use this time to also open class, have your greeting. It is okay to deviate from the timing in edio
One chunk should be longer than the other. If you are in a novel, make reading the heavier focus. If a writing project is soon to be turned in, make writing the heavier focus. If you cannot get through all of the assigned chapters, texts, graphic organizers found in edio, that is okay as long as you are hitting the daily objectives!
Should be focused on i-Ready minutes, small group intervention, one-on-one support. Centers can be useful during this time!
Let's talk about it!
"Teach with fidelity!""Do not touch edio.""Use edio to teach!""Only teach for 50 minutes when edio is designed for 80.""edio is only for the async learner."
GOALS: Unmuddy the water
- Review the standards and learning targets to ensure you are including key content
- Work backward from assessments and assignments/projects so your instruction aligns with what students need to know to be successful
- It is OK to skip certain activities/resources in the edio lesson and remind students that it is there for them to circle back to on their own time.
Transforming the content in edio to guided:
