Although Audrey is subjected to abuse at the moment, her risk could escalate at point of separation and she could be in greater danger. Audrey may feel a sense of security knowing Henry's movements - something that she will not know if she did leave.
If Audrey did have to go into emergency accommodation, she may not be able to take Lila if pets are not allowed. Audrey may not feel Lila is safe with Henry, as he does not treat her well, and she is Audrey's main source of emotional support.
Although Audrey does not have any financial freedom, she does have access to amenities. If she did leave, she has no access to identification to open a new account. Henry may also remove the money from the joint account to stop her accessing it.
Audrey would have to obtain legal support to either buy Henry's share or he would need to agree to the sale of the property and split the assets. Audrey does not have access to money to pay for legal support or alternative accommodation.
If Audrey leaves the home she will not be able to take all of her possessions straight away. Henry has threatened to throw her family photo albums away and she is worried he would do so in revenge.
Henry made sure that the car was in his name and that Audrey is added onto his insurance. She does not own it and this is her main way of getting about.
Audrey has been with Henry for many years and there have been good times together. Audrey believes that she would be lost without Henry. When times are calmer, Audrey thinks that Henry just goes through 'bad patches' and that he can't help it.
What could Audrey gain?

If Audrey is not living in an environment where she is constantly put down and verbally abused, she may begin to build her confidence and independence. However, this is not an immediate gain and would take some time.
Audrey could meet new people. However, there is no guarantee that Henry won't try to contact her and continue the abuse. Finding safe accommodation is paramount. A new start can be daunting, particularly as Henry has knocked her confidence.
Over time, Audrey's physical and mental health may begin to improve as she will have more independence and freedom than before.
Audrey lost contact with a lot of family friends because Henry was either nasty to them or she did not feel able to speak to them. She may be able to get back in contact with family and friends for support.
