David Ezra Stein is an award-winning children's book author and illustrator known for his humorous and vividly illustrated stories. Born in New York, Stein developed a love of storytelling and art at the age of 5. He studied at the School of Visual Arts and first began as an editorial illustrator before taking the plunge into children's literature. David's work often emphasizes themes of curiosity,famil and self expression, which he brings to life with his signature drawings and playful humor. Notable Books: Interrupting Chicken (2010) One of Stein's most popular Caldecott Honor winning books follows a young, eager-to-help chicken named Little Red, who keeps interruptingher father's bedtime stories with her own endings. The appeal of this book is the interaction between a parent and a child, making it relatable to families. Interrupting Chicken and the Elephant of Surprise (2018) A sequel to the original Interrupting Chicken, the story continues the playful relationship between little chicken and her father. In this book Little Red insists that every story must have an "elephant of surprise",leading to even more interruptions. This book earned a starred review from Kirkus. Leaves (2007) This is Stein's debut picture book, which showcases his whimsical illustration side. The story centers around a young bear experiencing his first autumn trying to figure out why the leaves fall from the trees. Leaves was highly acclaimed for it's minimalist storytelling. Ice Boy (2017) This is an adventurous story about an ice cube that ventures out into the world. This book uses clever science related humor. Hush Little Bunny (2019) This story reimagines a classic lullaby about a bond between a father bunny and his child.Stein uses a soft pastel color hue for his illustrations creating a soothing relaxation for young readers. Style and Impact Stein's storytelling is known for his humor, heart and playful spirit. His books often reflect the importance of family, self-expression and curiosity. His illustrations are usually done in watercolor ink and crayon that have a casual feel. David Ezra Stein has an ability to connect to both children and adults.
