ESCAPE ROOM
METHODIST MUSEUM
- The Methodist Movement began as a reform movement by a bunch of College Students in England who decided that the Anglican Church needed some help. They didn't set out to start a denomination.
- There were some failed ministry attempts in Georgia by Founder of Methodism, John Wesley, and his brother, Charles.
- Today's United Methodist Church was formed in 1968 as a merger of the Methodist Church (itself a merger in 1939 of the Methodist Episcopal Church; Methodist Episcopal Church, South; and the Methodist Protestant Church) and the Evangelical United Brethren Church (itself a merger in 1946 of the Evangelical Association and Church of the United Brethren in Christ). There were other splits and mergers over the years too.
- Baltimore is considered the birthplace of American Methodism.

The Methodist Episcopal Church had over 200 splits in the first 20 years of her existence. But there were several major groups that eventually merged together to form today's UMC: The Methodist Episcopal Church (1784-1939), The Methodist Protestant Church (1828-1939), The Methodist Episcopal Church, South (1844-1939), The Methodist Church (1939-1968), The Church of the United Brethren in Christ (1800-1946), The Evangelical Association (various forms, 1809-1946) and the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB, 1946-1968).
