Production

Filming for the movie began on August 24, 1992. The crew worked to create sets on the Islands of Kauai, Hawaii, and Universal Studios. Shooting was successful for the most part, right up until the end. On September 11, 1992, Hurricane Iniki wiped out both sets and surrounding vegetation. The crew made the best of the situation and used some shots after the hurricane in the film.

Jurassic Park is based on a novel by Michael Crichton. Due to the length and gore in the book, it was shortened and toned down in the film. One scene that was omitted was a dinosaur eating a small child. Speilberg wanted to create a better viewing experience for all ages. Speilberg wrote his own adaptation of the movie alongside Crichton.
