Hundertwasser -
Sketchbook responses
In the main event, children create a sketchbook page(s) collating all the information they have gathered about the artist and architect Freidenscriech Hundertwasser.

In art, a ‘response’ records an individual reaction to a stimulus. Responses will be personal and individual and children may create very different sketchbook pages. In this case, the stimulus is the life and work of Hundertwasser. Children record facts or information they find interesting, or that resonates with them, through written text, sketches and collected images. Decorative backgrounds create an overall mood that reflects the information. These sketchbook pages are a piece of art in themselves!
What is a sketchbook response?

This is an open-ended task and there is no set way for children to complete it. How they approach it is part of their response. How they collate and arrange their information should be entirely up to them. Having a range of resources available allows them to work creatively.
Opposite is an example of a sketchbook response completed over 2 pages covering some of the suggestions made in the lesson plan.

Use the Presentation: Hundertwasser and the images on slides 10 to 11 to discuss with your class what a sketchbook response could contain and to show the differences between recording information in a sketchbook rather than an exercise book. Ensure pupils understand that these images are just for ideas and that their own pages will look completely different!
