Just a Joke
A Short Narrative Concept by Taralyn Andes
What if a seemingly "harmless" prank goes too far?
Location / Scene
Narrative Breakdown
Step 1
"Victim" Enters
A working man returns home, clearly tired. He simply wants to have a relaxing day at home after a long day of work
Step 2
The First Appearance
The "prank" begins; a strange doll is found sitting in the living room. While confused, the "victim" is not concerned and simply moves the object to a less obvious location, like a shelf
Step 3
The Prank Continues
The "victim" goes to the kitchen to make a meal, only to turn and find the doll waiting for him at the table
Step 4
The Prank Ends
While trying to make sense of the situation, the doll is grabbed by a new hand so the doll "disappears"; the doll is placed at the top of the steps, only to scare the victim to the point where he falls down the stairs...
Aesthetic / Style
Low-High Key Lighting
A natural perspective/look regarding lightingColor temperatures such as 3200K or daylight reflecting in
Commonly 24mm-50mm Lenses
While the low/high extremes of lenses can still be used, most will be filmed from a "human" perspective
Simple --> Suspenseful
Background music/audio will be less impactful until the second time the doll shows up; will shift to a more dramatic film
Why Make this Film?
Literal Meaning
We've all seen those YouTube prank videos that always tend to go too far...
Metaphorical Meaning
Especially in modern society, some "pranks" such as disinformation can make or break the country's unity
Genre
The first half of the narrative can be treated almost as a comedy before the suspense & ending become more "horror" & suspense
Accessibility
While the narrative asks for a "house", some student housing such as Savin has the same structure required
Requirements
Only 2 actors (3 if we want 2 "pranksters")All shoot schedules will be at one locationObvious problem & resolution
