Newton's First Law of Motion & FBD
Steps to Draw an FBD: 1. Identify the object of interest2. Represent the object as a point or simple shape3. Draw arrows for all forces acting on the object4. Label each force5. Account for all forces
1. Gravitational Force ( Fg ): The force of gravity acting on an object is also called its weight. 2. Normal Force ( FN): The perpendicular force exerted by a surface to support the weight of an object resting on it. 3. Frictional Force ( Ff): The force that resists the relative motion of objects sliding past each other. 4. Tension Force (FT): The pulling force transmitted through a string, rope, or wire. 5. Applied Force ( Fa): Any external force applied to an object by a person or another object. 6. Air Resistance ( Fair): A type of frictional force that acts on objects as they move through air.
• For each station on the left page of your INB: 1. Label the station # 2. Follow procedures and draw a picture in your notebook 3. List observations 4. Draw a FBD of the situation 5. Explain how this shows Newtons first law
