Fine Line

I'm in my bedAnd you're not hereAnd there's no one to blame but the drink in my wandering handsForget what I saidIt's not what I meantAnd I can't take it back, I can't unpack the baggage you leftWhat am I now? What am I now? What if I'm someone I don't want around?I'm falling again, I'm falling again, I'm fallingWhat if I'm down? What if I'm out? What if I'm someone you won't talk about?I'm falling again, I'm falling again, I'm falling

Falling

Grendel's possible ongoing crisis leads him to question who he is. As he finds himself listening more and more to the lies the Shaper tells, he also finds himself questioning his morals due to the fact that he is slowly believing them. The lyrics "What am I now? What am I now? What if I'm someone I don't want around," in the song Falling by Harry Styles are a clear representation of his self-doubt. As Grendel finds it difficult to come to terms with his consciousness he brings himself into a state of denying everything. This highlights the Nihilistic view Grendels adapts in order to escape the lies. He prefers to not believe anything rather than to believe the wrong thing. Grendel refuses to live a life in which he is following a poet, let alone a lying one.

Meet Me In The Hallway

The lines "We don't talk about it, It's something we don't 'cause once you go without it Nothing else will do," in Harry Styles' Meet Me In The Hallway creates an impact of never being satisfied. The concept of Nihilism is being highlighted as it represents not feeling like you have enough, therefore giving up on the situation. The lines relate back to Grendel's perspective because they share the negligence Grendel sets up for himself. The experiences in the real world lead Grendel to care less and less about what the world around him does. Once that illusion and spark of the real world has faded for him nothing will ever take him back to his perfect ideal world.

Just stop your crying, it's a sign of the timesWelcome to the final showI hope you're wearing your best clothesYou can't bribe the door on your way to the skyYou look pretty good down hereBut you ain't really goodIf we never learn we've been here beforeWhy are we always stuck and running fromThe bullets, the bullet? We never learn, we've been here beforeWhy are we always stuck and running fromYour bullets, a bullet?

Sign Of The Times

The line "But you ain't really good," in Sign Of The Times by Harry Styles highlight the truth about Grendel's self-esteem. "You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky," and "You look pretty good down here," tie back to the first line where the contrast is being displayed. The contrast represent the Nihlism in Grendel's story. All he does in the end seems to be of failure. This results in the lack of care from Grendel. As he is introduced to into the truthful cruelty and lies lying within the people he feels there is no point in trying any longer. "You look pretty good down here But you ain't really good," share the contrast and shift a nihilistic character experiences.

Eyes can't shineUnless there's somethin' burnin' bright behindSince you went away, there's nothin' left in mineI feel myself runnin' out of timeAnd now I'm one step closer to beingTwo steps far from youWhen everybody wants youEverybody wants youHow many nights does it take to count the stars? That's the time it would take to fix my heartOh, baby, I was there for youAll I ever wanted was the truth, yeah, yeahHow many nights have you wished someone would stay?Lie awake only hopin' they're okay

One Direction

Infinity

The lyrics "there's nothin' left in mine I feel myself runnin' out of time," the song Infinity by One Direction captures the exact meaning of nihilism. The perception and feeling of being empty and having nothing left is a nihilist factor that is often highlighted within Grendel. As the whole world becomes terrorized by Grendel's presence he is no longer putting in the effort to want to fit in. If there is nothing good for him out there, there is no need to care for a concept or idea that won't happen. There are no dreams but in their place, he is met with lies. Lies about him and lies about the world that Grendel cannot care for because he is now focusing on the factors he needs in order to live by. As time goes on there is nothing there for him but the thought of getting by until his last breath.

You and me got a whole lot of history (oh)We could be the greatest team that the world has ever seenYou and me got a whole lot of history (oh)So don't let it go, we can make some moreWe can live foreverMinibars, expensive carsHotel rooms and new tattoosThe good champagne, and private planesBut they don't mean anything'Cause the truth is out, I realizeThat without you here, life is just a lieThis is not the end, this is not the endWe can make it, you know it, you know

One Direction

History

As Grendel is hit with a wave of reality he seems to fall down a hopeless spiral. As everyone and everything appears to go against him specifically he is cornered into a state of fear and rejection. The lyrics "But they don't mean anything 'cause the truth is out, I realize that without you here, life is just a lie," in One Direction's History can be interpreted to correlate with how Grendel might feel. He finds comfort in his mother's actions and appreciates the heroic sentiment on her behalf. The lyrics highlight the Nihilism in the story by contradicting any idea Grendel might've made on his own, as opposed to being treated equally in a perfect world. He faces discrimination and persecution in a world full of lies.

Out Of My System

The lyrics "I've lived a lot of my life already But I gotta get through the rest,'' in the song Out Of My System by Louis Tomlinson carry an overwhelmed tone. Similar to Grendel's tone, there seems to be a take of of life as if he is going through just surviving. As he is introduced into the "real world" Grendel is able to experience different situations in which he just wishes to move on. With many experiences to come Grendel is quickly introduced to many of the problems he finds himself dealing with in the present. The lines in Tomlinson's song tie to Nihilistic beliefs because there is an implied theme of life not getting better. There is a simple statement that can be interpreted as just wanting to get through life in an effort to be able to move on.
