In “The case of the missing marquess”, Enola Holmes, the younger sister of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, embarks on her own adventure. On her 14th birthday, Enola discovers that her mother, Eudoria, has mysteriously disappeared without saying anything. While her brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft, are quick to assume she left on purpose, Enola feels there is more to the story. Her brothers plan was to send her to a boarding school, but Enola was in disaccording. Using her mother’s secret messages and the clues she left behind, Enola escapes and sets out to find her. Along the way, she becomes entangled in the case of a missing boy, the young Marquess of Basilwether, who has been kidnapped. As Enola investigates, she uncovers a dangerous conspiracy while evading her brothers who are determined to bring her home. Throughout her journey, Enola uses her wit, disguises, and deductive skills to outsmart everyone around her. In the end, she uncovers the truth about the Marquess's disappearance and begins to realize that her mother may not want to be found. Instead of returning home, Enola decides to continue living independently, solving mysteries while staying a step ahead of Sherlock and Mycroft. This sets the stage for Enola’s future adventures as she carves out her own path as a detective, different from but just as clever as her brother Sherlock.

Enola Holmes

Enola Holmes is the main character of the book. Enola is the younger sister of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, she is 14 and like her brother she is very smart and intelligent. She is determined, often more intelligent than those who underrate her because of her age and gender. She has a passion for flowers and to decipher the codes that her mother wrote, she is also sensible, impulsive and she has a quick thinking.

Viscount Tewksbury

The Viscount Tewksbury is a complex character. He is 12 and he comes from a noble family, but despite his age, Tewky (the nickname by which he is called by Enola) possesses a strong sense of individuality and a desire to escape from his family. He is intelligent and rebellious, but sometimes is also kind with Enola. During yhe story this character escaped from his family but he was kidnapped with Enola and they was locked in to a boat.

Eudoria Vernet Holmes

Eudoria Vernet Holmes is the Enola's mother, she is independent and very intelligent. She has a passion for art and flowers. Eudoria is also very mysterious and her personality is not well explored.

Enola's Brothers

Sherlock : Sherlock is known for his intelligence and extraordinary deductive skills, he is a world famous detective, characterized by a logical and scientific approach to problems. Sherlock is tall, slim with dark hair and serious expression; he wears a long coat and a top hat. Enola and Sherlock have a complex relationship because he doesn’t understand her desire for independence and her talent for solving mysteries, but he also cares about her.

Enola's Brothers

Mycroft : He is the oldest brother, he’s a very intelligent man, he is less active in the action than Sherlock because he prefere analyzing actions from afar. Mycroft is stocky, he has also dark hair, he is often described as having more neglected appearance, reflecting his more sedentary lifestyle. Mycroft is authoritarian but he also cares about protecting Enola; but tends to see her independence as a threat which creates tension between the two.

The villains

Cutter (that is Madame Laelia dressed up): Enola met Madame Laelia at the marquess's house; she has wavy and curly black hair;piercing eyes, an expression that conveys both authority and mystery. She wears elegant and ancient clothes which reflect her sophisticated personality. She is cold and has a strange personality, in fact she talks to spirits.

Madame Laelia’s assistant : He has a squeaky voice; skinny, stunted, bent … disgusting. He has to monitor Enola and the marquess most of the time but as soon as he falls asleep, Enola and Tewky take advantage of this and run away. He is not a fundamental character but we know for sure that Madame Laelia relies on him.

Cutter and Madame Laelia have a child kidnapping business.

Ferndell hall is the place where the house of enola is located, is located in the middle of a vast isolated countryside. Enola’s house is very big but old and decrepit, in fact the house reflects the way Enola and his mother lived, that is in a free and carefree way. In the house there are many old books and antique furniture. In this place Enola grew up very intelligent and independent, all thanks to her mother. When enola's mother disappears, enola went to chaotic London to look for her. Enola was impressed by the big size of the Capital, where She saw the difference between the aristocratic and the poor people. As part of his investigation into the missing Marquis, Enola finds himself in the wealthy neighborhood of Belgravia, known for its large villas and well-off residents. The architecture is elegant and has details that indicate the wealth and status of those who live there. This neighborhood highlights the contrast between the comfortable lives of the rich and the hardships of London’s poorest neighborhood. in contrast to Belgravia, Enola also went to the East End of London, an area famous for its poverty and crime. In this neighborhood there are many people who, to survive, have to steal or commit crimes. In the streets there are a lot of children who play and run between poverty and crime. Basilwether Country Estate In his search for the missing Marquis, Enola briefly encounters the estate of Basilwether, a large palace belonging to the family of the young Viscount Tewkesbury, the Marquess of Basilwether. Like many Aristocratic properties, the Basilwether palace is surrounded by vast expanses of green fields, beautiful gardens and impressive stables. Contrary to what it seems this palace has many secrets inside it that concern the case of the missing marquis.
