The Navigation Acts were a series of laws made by Britain to control colonial trade. They required the colonies to only trade goods with Britain.

The Navigation Acts angered the colonists as they felt oppressed due to their trade being restricted to only Britain. This led to a desire of independence, which eventually led to the American Revolution.

The Albany Plan of Union made by Benjamin Franklin in 1754 was made to unify the Thirteen Colonies to bolster defense against the French during the French and Indian War.

This caused the colonies to divulge into cooperation, defense, and governance because of the increasing threats from the French and Natives during the war. The British saw the plan with suspicion. They wanted a broken colonial landscape to control the colonies they were also concerned about the colonies getting together to revolt against them.

A conflict between Britain and France in North America primarily over territorial disputes in the Ohio River Valley and the surrounding areas.

This CAUSED The british to tax the colonies due to their debt from the war. British officials viewed war necessary to expand their empire and control over North America. They viewed the victory with success but were faced with debt in the aftermath.

Pontiac's Rebellion was a Native American uprising led by Pontiac, against British rule. Pontiac assembled multiple native tribes and they attacked British forts and settlements.

Pontiac's Rebellion resulted from the British restricting trade, and colonists encroaching on native lands. This frustrated the natives and eventually led to Pontiac assembling tribes for war.

The Sugar Act was a law that increased the tax on sugar and molasses in the colonies.

The Sugar Act made the colonists very mad as they had no representation in the British Parliament and they could not afford to pay the extra tax on sugar.This caused more resentment against the British which eventually started the Revolution.

The Quartering Act required American colonists to give British troops stationed in the colonies houses, food, water, etc.

The Navigation acts 1651

The Quartering Act angered colonists because it forced them to house and supply British soldiers without their consent. The law fueled the hatred against British rule, which eventually led to the American Revolution.

The Stamp Act of was a law passed by Britain taxing all the colonists for printed materials. The colonists had to buy special stamped paper to prove that they paid the tax.

The Stamp Act caused the colonies to start uniting against Britain. The act angered colonists because they were taxed without representation in the British Parliament. This led to colonists coming together for protests and boycotts.

This RESULTED from colonial protest against the british due to tax laws and military prescense. The Loyalist saw this movement negatively towards the colonies. They believed the colonies were unjust in their revolt and believed loyalty to the crown was important.

The Tea Act was law that allowed the East India Company to sell tea with reduced taxes. This gave an advantage to British merchants selling in America.

The Tea Act angered colonists because it showed favoritism for the East India Company. Colonists also had to pay taxes without any representation. In protest, colonists in Boston, started to unite and eventually had the Boston Tea Party.

Intolerable acts/1774

This is a CONTINUATION from previous acts of colonial resistance. showing ongoing tensions between Britain and the colonies over the issues of rights and governance. The natives viewed the acts with concern. As colonists became more united against British (First Continential Congress) the Indigenous believed that the unification would lead to more encroachment on their land.

A response to the Intolerable Acts imposed by Britain. The colonies gathered to discuss the wrongs imposed by them and to unifiy.

First continental congress/1774

This CAUSED unity of the colonies, and identity among the Thirteen Colonies. Conversations about British wrongs. Enslaved people however viewed the congress with mixed feelings despite the call for rights and liberty they were widely excluded.

The Second Continental Congress was a meeting of colonial leaders. They made the Continental Army, and elected George Washington as the commander.

The Second Continental Congress was a result of the start of the Revolutionary War. The colonists needed to decide if they were going to separate from Britain, and they were also anxious about the war, so they decided to meet to discuss these issues.

This caused: Advocacy for independence due to paine’s clear arguments against the British monarchy. The patriots recieved Common sense with wide acceptance. They found Paine's arguments interesting and saw the pamphlet as a crucial piece inspiring the revolutionary cause.

This RESULTED from Discontent in the colonies because of British taxation, lack of representation, and the desire for independence. The native americans saw the declaration with fear. They feared that american independence would lead to more encroachment on their land and loss of their rights.
