Literary Competence

Poem

"Adventures with books"By Velda Blumhagen

Books are ships that sail the seas To lands of snow or jungle trees. And I’m the captain bold and free Who will decide which place we’ll see. Come, let us sail the magic ship. Books are trains in many lands, Crossing hills or desert sands. And I’m the engineer who guides The train on its exciting rides. Come, let us ride the magic train. Books are zoos that make a home For birds and beasts not free to roam. And I’m the keeper of the zoo, I choose the things to show to you. Come, let us visit in a zoo. Books are gardens, fairies, elves, Cowboys, and people like ourselves. And I can find with one good look Just what I want inside a book. Come, let us read! For reading’s fun!

Textbooks or pems

Both resources are reliable but they fullfil different aspects and purposes. Textbooks guide the ss through a limited number of activities in a text. Poems are more appealing because they can move their emotions and they learn that with a poem they can express and exchange their ideas and feelings to the audience. They gain confidence creating new structures without restrictions because it is their own composition, they write freely. Ss are interested in pronounce correctly , tone, volume , rhythm and stresses are imporved.

The four language skills

Reading: Ss read the poem with the purpose of understanding the poet's intention. Writing: Ss can create and write their own poems in order to transmit their feelings. Speaking: Ss retell their own poem, improve their pronunciation, rhythm, tone, stress, etc. Hearing: Ss listen to their classmates' poems trying to understand the message and confirm their ideas.

The four literary pillars

Alter & Ratheiser (2019) explains that literary competences rest on four individual pillars of their model. This illustrate how vital "all four competences are to a well-balanced literary literacy" Visit this paper for more informationhttps://www.researchgate.net/publication/340935109_A_new_model_of_literary_competences_and_the_revised_CEFR_descriptors
