WHAT IS ?

Dating violence is a behavior that is repeated over time, where one of the elements exercises power, through violence (physical, psychological, economic and/or sexual), in order to control, dominate and subjugate the other.

Stalking

It is any form, or attempt, of communication, surveillance, harassment or persecution of someone who does not want it and who, as a result of these behaviors, feel anxious, scared, afraid or in danger. Some examples are:

  • Reapeted and unwanted contacts
  • Knowing in detail alll the other person's steps
  • Sending unwanted gifts
  • Many others.

Physical violence

  • Slaps
  • Pulling hairs
  • Throwing things at another person
  • Pinch
  • Push
  • Grip tightly
  • Actions with the intention of hurting the other

Economic violence happens when the abuser:

  • Shouting or threatening
  • Preventing contact with other people
  • Not allowing the person to go out with other people

IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS IN A VIOLENT RELANTIONSHIP:

  • Listen to him/her without judging or blaming;
  • Don't pressure him/her to tell you the details he/her doesn't want to share;
  • Give him time to make his own decisions;
  • Don't abandone him/her if he/her doesn't end the relationship.

SEXUALIZED VIOLENCE

All sexualized behavior that someone has with another person who does not want it:

  • Kissing;
  • Groping;
  • Non-consensual touches;
  • Forcing to initiate sexual activity.

What can I do as a victim ?

  • Don't keep this problem a secret, talk to someone you trust who can help you find solutions or contact institutions that support victims of violence.
  • Even if you choose to stay in the relationship, you should make it clear that your not wiling to tolerate this type of abusive behavior, both physical and psychological.
