The background of luxurious furniture manufacturing

My intership

Kohler owns two french bathroom brand one of them being Sanijura. Sanijura was created after a carpentry business win a contest organized by a pharmaceutical company. Since then the technique evolved, the type of wood too. They went from only using solid wood to using recomposed materials.

When the pieces are painted they are checked from all angles. If they have even a tiny imperfection they are remade. After these step the excess of paint on the inside of the piece is carefully removed by hand. The employee have to be cautious not to cut the board.

Thanks to the work placement I learned how luxurious bathroom furniture were made. I realized the importance of communication and details.

All of the employee know each others. Some services had better work atmosphere. It's mainly due to the lack of loud noises and the proportion of women.

Some pieces are painted in cabin others by a robot. Regarding the variety of painted, some color are rarely used. Those colors and the quirky pieces are painted in the cabin. After each piece is painted, I had to check each of them for imperfections. Some were repaired right away, 10 to 20% had to be remade. 600 pieces are painted per day, so 600 and more checked in a day.

The second french brand of Kohler is Jacob Delafon. Jacob Delafon makes furniture sink and sink accessories. Their style is called parisian style. The furniture are build in Sanijura's factory, where I did my internship.

Regarding the variety of pieces, colors and sizes. The employees can't recognize the pieces. That's why a software have been used throughout the factory. It's used to communicate through the services too.

What make the brands different are the quality of the products and the variety of colors and materials. The factory still produce furniture in solid wood. Moreover, they have a special expertise regarding the way the paint is apply on the wood. It's really technical and they pay attention to every details.

Kohler Kohler is a big company, family owned, created by an Austrian refugee. They created the first bathtub : originally a tank with feet. They are now present on energy, bathroom and kitchen, and tourism markets. The family is know billionaires.
