Si usano SHALL I...? e I'LL... per offrirsi di fare qualcosa: SHALL+infinito senza to SHALL I WASH the dishes for you?/Vuoi che ti lavi i piatti? I'LL+infinito senza TO I'LL WASH the dishes for you/Ti lavo io i piatti.

SHALL si usa nelle frasi INTERROGATIVE, mentre I'LL si usa nella frase AFFERMATIVA. Si usano in contesti formali ed informali.Per accettare o rifiutare le offerte con SHALL I...?Usiamo espressioni come queste:

Come si nota dagli esempi, dopo DO YOU WANT e WOULD YOU LIKE usiamo un sostantivo (a coffee) o un verbo all'infinito (to come). WOULD YOU LIKE è più formale e cortese di DO YOU WANT. Per accettare o rifiutare un'offerta o un invito usiamo espressioni come queste:

LET'S+INFINITO SENZA TO Let's stay at home tonight. Stiamo a casa stasera. Per accettare o rifiutare una proposta usiamo queste espressioni:

Per fare una controproposta si usa I'D RATHER:I'D RATHER+INFINITO SENZA TO I'd rather give mum some perfume.Preferirei regalare un profumo alla mamma. A: Why don't we go to Paris for a few days? B:I'd rather not. I'd rather go to Prague. A:Let's have a pizza. B: I'd rather eat something else.

Per replicare ad una frase negativa si usa NEITHER/NOR seguito dall'ausliare (in forma affermativa) della frase a cui si replica. I haven't got any money. Neither/Nor have I Io non ho soldi. Nemmeno io. He doesn't speak english. Neither/Nor does his wife. Lui non parla inglese. Neppure sua moglie.

Le espressioni italiane "anch'io", "anche tu"...usate per replicare ad una frase affermativa, in inglese si rendono con SO+AUSILIARE della frase a cui si replica. I am tired. So am I Bob has arrived. So has Sue. Se nella frase originale non c'è un ausiliare nella replica SO è seguito da DO/DOES/DID. I like the music. SO DO I. His brother lives in London. So DOES his sister.
