Shay's Rebellion

1786-1787, Massachusset's exceptionally high taxes and harsh economic conditions caused a rebellion. About 1,200 protestors led by Daniel Shay attacked the federal arsenal in Springfield, forcing the Supreme Court there to adjourn. However, this protest failed since militias repulsed them. Even though this protest was not massive, it still convinced some people to argue for a stronger government, catalyzing the Constitutional Convention.

Establishment of Jamestown:

1607, British colonizers arrived in North America and chose to set their first settlement in Virginia. This first settlement was later named after their king, King James. Their purpose was first to find gold in North America, but later, they used it to grow cash crops. This establishment symbolized the start of the English colonization in North America.

Sugar Act

1764, the British tried to end the smuggling sugar trade from the French and Dutch West Indies by increasing sugar taxes. The Sugar Act was aimed to gain enough money to fund Great Britain's expansion after the Seven Years War, which caused dissatisfaction and rebellion among the colonists. Finally, the sugar taxes decreased, so the rebellion ended. The Sugar Act planted a seed for the Independence War, which had a similar cause that British over-control and raged the colonists.

Boston Massacre

Due to the increasing tax from the British Parliament, more and more colonists started protesting. On March 5, 1770, groups of colonists had a conflict with British soldiers, which ended when British soldiers decided to shoot the colonists with their guns. Later, those British soldiers all went to jail. This event symbolizes that the relationship between colonists and the British is getting increasingly severe. Similar to the Sugar Act and Stamp Act, it caused the colonists intolerable later on.

Treaty of Paris 1763

1763, the war between the French and the British in North America ended. In this war, they fought for the ownership of some places they both claimed to own. It ended with France losing all its territory in North America to Great Britain. The Treaty of Paris is important because it means that the Indigenous needed to keep fighting the British and caused France to support colonists later in the independence war.

Tea Act

In 1773, the British Parliament passed an act aimed at helping the financially troubled British East Indian Company sell its massive amount of tea stored in London. In detail, the Tea Act gave the British East Indian Company the right to ship their tea to America directly without paying Great Britain's export taxes. The Tea Act started the Boston Tea Party and later caused more British tax abuse. It also persuaded the colonists to declare independence.

Battle of Lexington and Concord

April 15, 1775, the Battle of Lexington and Concord officially started the Revolutionary War. American colonists stockpiled weapons in Concord, and 800 British troops marched through Lexington to Concord and started the war. The Battle of Lexington and Concord is essential since it officially started the American Revolutionary War.

Battle of Yorktown

In 1781, the British troops surrendered to the American and French alliance in Yorktown, Virginia, after a one-month battle. This battle was essential and decisive for the Revolutionary War; it was also the last major land battle in the American Revolutionary War. It established the foundation of America's victory in the Revolutionary War, the last primary battle.

Intolerable Act

In 1774, the British parliament passed four punitive measures to punish American protests such as the Boston Tea Party. These four measures included closing Boston's harbor, reducing the colony to the level of a crown colony, and more. The Intolerable Act symbolizes that Great Britain was trying to gain all control over American colonies once again. They also caused the First Continental Congress.

Treaty of Paris 1783

In 1783, American, French, Spanish, and British representatives signed the Treaty of Paris, officially ending the Revolutionary War. This treaty symbolized the independence of the colonies. In addition, the American victory in the Battle of Yorktown made the British willing to consider the colonies' independence. The Treaty of Paris is essential since it symbolizes the victory and Independence of the United States.

Introduction of Slavery in America

1619, A ship arrived at Point comfort near Jamestown, with around 20 enslaved Africans sold to James town in exchange for food. Moreover, more and more slave trade in North America occurs after this. The introduction of slavery in America was essential because African Americans played an important role in U.S. history, like the Revolutionary War, and also in modern society.

Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence was written mainly by Jefferson and approved by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It officially announced the independence of the 13 colonies. Furthermore, the date when the Declaration of Independence was approved later became the national day of the United States. This document is essential since it symbolizes American Independence and formulates the central political ideas of America.

Articles of Confederation

Although the Articles of Confederation were written and adopted by Congress in 1777, they were not approved by the states until 1781. Furthermore, they established a confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government. The Articles of Confederation were essential because they created state independence and set a foundation for the United States government.

Boston Tea Party

In 1773, American protestors threw 342 boxes of British East Indian Company tea into Boston Harbor. In order to protest the tea tax and the company's monopoly. The Boston Tea Party was essential because it pushed the colonists to support declaring independence one step further. It also allowed the British Parliament to pass the Intolerable Acts that limited Boston's economy as a punishment.

Battle of Saratoga

In the fall of 1774, British General Burgoyne led a troop of around 8,000 soldiers to try to invade strategy-essential cities in New York. However, he failed and surrendered, and over 6,000 British soldiers were captured. This battle can be considered the turning point in the American Revolutionary War. It convinced France to ally with America and was destructive to British strategies in the colonies.

Stamp Act

This Act is similar to the Sugar Act, in which the British Parliament taxed the colonies for papers to pay for the military costs of the Seven Years War. This also led to the colonists' violence since they thought only their own representatives could tax them. The Stamp Act raged the colonists even more, allowing them to consider declaring independence due to the British abuse of power.
