Get Started

Every character was in someone else’s space, struggling with tasks they didn’t understand. Now, it’s up to you to help them find their way back to where they belong. Your mission is to unlock the secrets of organizational patterns and guide these characters back to their rightful places. Only when they rediscover their true roles can the community be restored.

I'm Ready!

To begin restoring the community, it is first important to review each member's purpose and role. Just like members of a community, organizational patterns serve unique purposes in writing. Your first challenge is to match each description to its correct organizational pattern. Once you’ve identified the role of each pattern, you’ll unlock the next step toward restoring the roles in our community.

Task 1: Defining Patterns of Organization

Click on a circle to the right to read a definition. Drag the circles to their spots above. Once finished, click on the lock to test your combination.

Back

Directions: Click on the white space to enter the combination. If you get it right, you will move on to the next challenge. If you don't, go back and review your work. Then try again.

I'm Ready!

Stories can be a great way to jog a person's memory. In every community, people come together to share stories and experiences. Each story has its own way of being told, just like writing has different organizational patterns. Your next challenge is to identify how these paragraphs are structured. By recognizing how these stories are told, you’ll take another step closer to helping these community members remember their places and their roles.

Task 2: Identifying Patterns of Organization

Impressive work sorting out those roles, but I don't feel like everything is completely clear yet. It's going to take more sorting, problem-solving, and hard work if you are going to save this community. Are you up to the challenge?

You're almost there. I think the community members are becoming more comfortable in their original roles again, but I just don't know that they have it quite yet. Can we enlist your assistance one last time?

Task 4: Identifying Patterns of Organization

Read each paragraph and identify which pattern is used. After reading the paragraph, click the ? to identify the organizational pattern. Remember the letters you choose, and keep them in the order of the paragraphs (left to right). This will be your access code to unlock your final challenge. Once you have recorded all four letters, click next in the top right corner.

I'm Ready!

The characters have begun to find their roles, but we just discovered a pile of scattered paperwork—documents from the community that were lost when everything fell apart. This paperwork holds the key to officially restoring order and returning everyone to their rightful places. Your final mission is to sort through the paperwork by answering questions about how sentences and ideas are organized. Each correct answer will bring you one step closer to saving the community.
