MY RESEARCH PROGRESS
=> How can we continue to host SMEs sustainably and successfully amidst the increasing impact of climate change? => And my proposed answer is we need a Climate Resilience Strategy
1. my research project
- Sports mega-events (SMEs) have become a much-studied phenomenon in recent decades
- Commercialisation and gigantism of SMEs
- The bi-directional relationship between sport and the environment
- Define Climate Resilience Strategy (CRS) in the context of sport events management
- Discover CRS's contribution to the sustainable development of the sector
- Review Social capital and how it can be applied in event hosting
- Examine social capital roles in building a long-lasting and successful CRS

SOCIAL CAPITAL
tHEIR RELATIONSHIP
The relationship between social capital and resilience has not been discovered in the context of sport events
Gap in the literature
Very limited research on the environmental leverage of sport events especially SMEs
Climate Resilience is a novel concept in event management construct. Very few research found
SMEs have always been seen as a catalyst for climate action
Bi-directional relationship between sport and the environment is quite new
SME event planners have a robust and proactive approach to reducing GHG emissions and adapting to the impact of climate change while ensuring optimal operation and future viability
Theoretical contributions Practical contributions
Enrich the knowledge of environmental leveraging for SMEs
Introduce the climate resilience concept to sport event management
Develop Climate Resilience Framework

Interactive question
"Climate resilience, a concept rooted in urban development, is about creating systems that can withstand and adapt to climate impacts. For sports events, it means building hosting frameworks capable of handling extreme weather, resource constraints, or environmental disruptions.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet
Sports mega-events have a profound, lasting impact on their host cities, creating jobs, boosting tourism, and building social cohesion. However, they also pose environmental risks, including high greenhouse gas emissions and significant resource use. Given climate change's increasing threats, it’s crucial to rethink how these events are hosted
Research Questions
1. What is CRS, and how can it contribute to leveraging SMEs in the context of climate change? 2. Can social capital contribute to the climate resilience strategy for future hosting?

"Social capital, which encompasses the connections, trust, and norms that facilitate cooperation, plays a vital role in resilience. When applied to sports events, social capital can strengthen local engagement and collective action, both of which are essential for achieving resilience goals. Studies show that communities with strong social bonds can mobilize more effectively during environmental challenges, suggesting that social capital could be key in implementing CRS.
Air pollution
There was health concern during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games due to bad air quality in Paris
Low snow fall
The Beijing Winter Olympic Games heavily depended on the artificial snow (more than 90%)
Extreme heat
The World Cup 2022 in Qatar was moved to the winter months to avoid the heat
Here you can put a highlighted title
With Genially templates, you can include visual resources to leave your audience speechless. You can also highlight specific phrases or data that will be ingrained in your audience's memory, and even embed external content that will surprise: videos, photos, audios... Whatever you want!Do you need more reasons to create dynamic content? Well: 90% of the information we assimilate comes to us through sight, and we retain 42% more information when the content is moving.
"The framework I propose combines climate resilience strategy with social capital to build an adaptable event-hosting system. Social capital enhances resilience through trust-building, resource sharing, and collective action, allowing communities to adapt better to climate-related disruptions. My framework emphasizes pre-event planning and post-event benefits, aiming to make resilience a core part of the event lifecycle. By integrating CRS and social capital, the hosting of sports events could shift from a potential environmental burden to a model of sustainability that leaves lasting benefits."
