About ME
I am Chris Groeber, your instructor. I have been a child welfare worker in various capacities for over 33 years and I still love it. I hope that, at the very least, you will gain some critical understanding of this specific specialty of social work and even if you do not enter it, will appreciate and support those doing the direct work with children. About ME
I earned my MSW from the University of Kentucky in 1993 and have spent more than 30 years deep in child welfare. I helped shape Kentucky’s Public Child Welfare Certification program, making sure future BSW students got hands-on experience before jumping into the field. I've taught a lot about Policy Development and Macro Practice and even led one of the first Quality Improvement Centers focused on frontline supervision in child welfare. Most recently, I was the U.S. CEO of Key Assets, an international organization supporting kids with severe autism. I’ve lived and worked in several countries, including a year in Chelyabinsk, Russia (yes, Siberia!). Social entrepreneurship excites me, and I’ve developed businesses with that mindset.
Associate in Research Chris Groeber, MSW, speaks to the high school students.
Now, my passion is helping students understand both Micro and Macro Social Work Practice, with a strong focus on social justice. I believe self-reflection is key to being a fair and effective social worker. I’m also big on policy, leadership, coaching, and supervision, and I love working with students who want to make a real impact on the lives of children and families.
