research task
Simulate a patient consultation
Search for recent market reports, articles, or statistics related to your chosen market segment. Use sources like Statista, Nielsen, or industry-specific publications.
Market Reports
Search for recent market reports, articles, or statistics related to your chosen market segment. Use sources like Statista, Nielsen, or industry-specific publications.
Start with asking open-ended questions about the patient's complaints, and slowly move to more specific ones. Remember to inquire about the history of present illness, past medical history, medications prescribed or purchased, family history, and social history. Record all this information in Google Forms.
History Taking
Based on the presenting symptoms, decide which physical examinations are necessary. For each physical examination, research its standard procedure and what potential findings could mean.
Physical Examination
Simulation
Analysis Task
Analysis Task:
Collecting Data and information:Analyse the collected information, and form a list of potential diagnoses. Be sure to include justifications for each potential diagnosis based on symptoms, physical examination findings, and patient history. Use this information to structure a differential diagnosis and a working diagnosis.
Simulation
Create Task
Create task
Create a management plan for your patient, which should include any additional tests or investigations required to help confirm diagnosis, treatment options (including medications and lifestyle modifications), and potential referrals to specialists if required.
Simulation
Document and Present
Document and Present
Compile your patient assessment and management plan in a Google Docs document, formatted as a formal medical report. This document should follow a standard medical report format which includes:
- Patient Information
- Consultation Notes
- Assessment
- Management Plan

Learning Experience
Reflect on the Process:
Reflect on this simulation and what it has taught you about patient health assessment. Note down any areas where you struggled and need improvement, and areas where you think you excelled.

Expected outcome
By the end of this activity, you will have experienced a GP's health assessment process from start to finish. This experience enhances understanding and competence in taking patient history, performing and interpreting physical examinations, considering potential diagnoses, structuring a differential and working diagnosis, and creating a comprehensive management plan.
