The Past Perfect form is: Positive: Subject + had + verb in past participle. Negative: Subject + had + not + verb in past participle. Questions: Had + Subject + verb in past participle. The Past Perfect tense principal use is to indicate that an action was completed before another action in the past. Helps to set the chronological order of past events.

EXAMPLE

  • Aaron was tired because he had not eaten all day
  • We had never seen such a beautiful sunset untilwe visited the beach.

PAST SIMPLE

The Past Simple form is: Positive: Subject + verb in past. Negative: Subject + didn't + infinitive. QuestionS: Did + subject + infinitive. The regular verbs: add -ed. The irregular verbs: special forms. The Past Simple tense pricipal use is to describe actions that occurred and were completed in the past. This verbal time is ideal for narrating past events or actions that occurred at a specific time.
