Alte Pinakothek

The Pinakotheks

The Pinakotheks is a three-part art gallery in the university quarter of Munich. The ‘Alte’ (old) Pinakothek has a collection of old-world masters, while the ‘Neue’ (new) Pinakothek is a gallery with a focus on European art of the 18th and 19th centuries. The Pinakothek der Moderne, opened in 2002, is four museums combined looking at visual arts through different dimensions of print and design.

The Dresden Zwinger

As one of the most iconic examples of Baroque architecture in Germany built in the 18th Century, the Zwinger in Dresden is an artwork in itself. The palatial complex houses several museums, including the Dresden Porcelain Collection with the world’s largest collection of porcelain, the Semper Gallery with old world masters, and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, currently hosting a special exhibition on renowned German artist Caspar David Friedrich to mark the 250th anniversary of his birth.

The Städel Museum, Frankfurt

On the bank of the Main River along the Museum Embankment of Frankfurt, the Städel Museum is the address for art lovers. The permanent exhibition is a collection of art spanning over 700 years, with seasonal exhibitions highlighting arts through various expressions and context. The guided tours give deeper insight into the world of art. Head to the rooftop for a sweeping view of Frankfurt city.

Museum Barberini in Potsdam

Housed in a palace built by Frederick the Great, Museum Barberini is a private museum that has become one of the most popular art museums with a focus on Impressionist paintings. Other than its collection, the museum offers education programs that include readings, concerts, workshops and talks to maintain public interest and knowledge about art.
