Technology levels the playing field
Technology allows special education students to access general education classrooms. During the pandemic, it became clear that online learning could benefit many students. "Some students with disabilities, particularly those with emotional and attention issues, thrived in online environments that, when constructed with intentionality, fostered focused, individualized learning experiences (Morando-Rhim & Ekin, 2022).

Current regulations provide assistive technology to special education students, but not their general education counterparts. This differentiation only furthers the stigma of special educaiton. UDL is intended for all and technology benefits all students.

Assistive Technology in the Classroom
Advantages
Technology makes it easier to implement accommodations and modifications in everyday instruction. Immediate feedback and prompts for further instruction and exploration can be provided through the flexibility of technology. Technology removes barriers!

Assistive Technology
Technology has become more portable and less expensive. Assistive technology allows students to access curriculum in the general education setting. AAC devices, speech to text and text to speech help special education students achieve without the stigma associated with past practices.
