About our project
Info
- Climate change mitigation
- Track evolution of erosion in zones affected by wildfires
- Data used from Copernicus Sentinel-2
- Analysed with software QGIS
September 2018 (before wildfire occured)
September 2019(after wildfire occured)
What can be done to mitigate the erosion?
- The technique we found more effective is mulching, that consists in covering the soil with organic materials or inorganic materials to protect and improve its quality.
- The main goal of mulching is to create a barrier between the soil and the environment.
- We will reinforce the area by applying mulching with plant remains from the region itself.
- Using tools as Forest Watch, which extracts data from images captured by Sentinel-2, we found where wildfires took place.- Later on, with QGIS we analysed the data determining the difference of vegetation with the NDVI.
