Summary and Plot

the truth is discovered thanks to logic and deduction

Henry Baskerville is the last descendant of the Baskerville family and the heir to Baskerville Hall, a vast estate located on the Dartmoor moorlands. After the mysterious death of his uncle, Sir Charles Baskerville, Henry returns from America to claim his inheritance. However, he becomes the target of a series of threats linked to the legend of the hellhound, a spectral creature said to haunt the family. Sherlock Holmes is tasked with protecting Henry and solving the mystery surrounding Sir Charles' death.

Who is he?

Jack Stapleton, an eccentric naturalist living on the moor with his supposed sister Beryl, is actually the last descendant of the Baskerville dynasty, and Beryl is his wife. Stapleton raises a giant dog, a crossbreed between a mastiff and a bloodhound, which he uses to frighten Sir Charles to death. On the last night of the events, he sets the dog on Sir Henry but flees after hearing Holmes' gunshots. While trying to escape into the bog, he drowns in the mire. Beryl, mistreated by her husband and in love with Henry Baskerville, is tied up by Stapleton but is freed by Holmes. In the end, she helps the detective pursue her husband and confesses that she feels like a victim of his deceptions and cruelty.

Dr. James Mortimer, a former doctor at Charing Cross Hospital, moves to Dartmoor to open a country practice and becomes friends with the Baskerville family. After the mysterious death of Sir Charles Baskerville, Mortimer, the executor of the will, turns to Sherlock Holmes to protect the heir, Henry Baskerville. He tells Holmes about the legend of the hellhound and his suspicions regarding Sir Charles' death. Mortimer then accompanies Sir Henry to the family estate on the moor.
