Match The STEM Pioneer

She wrote the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine for the early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine.

The first Hispanic woman to travel to space, breaking racial and gender barriers in the field of space exploration.

Her calculations at NASA were essential in getting astronauts into orbit and safely back to Earth from the first U.S. manned spaceflights.

She created the Clarke calculator after graduating. Before that, problems were solved manually.

This Hollywood actress, co-invented a frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology during World War II. A precursor to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Edith Clarke was an electrical engineer and the first female professor of electrical engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. She developed the Clarke Calculator, a graphical device for solving electrical circuit problems, which greatly improved the efficiency of electrical engineering calculations.

Hedy Lamarr's contributions to technology were largely overlooked because of her celebrity status as an actress. She co-developed technology during WWII to make torpedo guidance systems more secure and resistant to jamming. This paved the way for tech like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.

Grace Hopper developed COBOL, an early high-level programming language for business, and created the first compiler, the A-0 System, making coding more accessible. She also popularized the term "debugging" after a moth was found causing her computer issues.

Ellen Ochoa was the first Hispanic woman to go to space and served as the director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center. Her work includes space shuttle missions and contributions to optical systems and robotics.
