Structure of simple present

AFFIRMATIVE:

  • Subject + verb principal (-s, -es, -ies) + complement.

NEGATIVE:

  • Subject + do not (don´t)/does not (doesn´t) + normal verb in present.

QUESTION:

  • Do/Does + subject + normal verb in present + ?

(Do): I, you, we, they(Does): He, she, it(-s, -es, -ies): He, she, it

Usage of simple present

Habitual Actions: (I play bascketball five times a week).General Truths: (I feel happy when I play bascketball).Facts: (I study in high school).

Usage of present continuos

Acciones en Progreso: (She is talking on the phone right now). Situaciones Temporales: (I am working on a project this week). Planes Futuros: (We are meeting them for dinner tomorrow).

Usage of simple past

Acciones Completadas en el Pasado: I visited Paris last summer. Eventos Específicos en el Pasado: She graduated from college in 2010. Acciones Repetidas en el Pasado: We often went to the beach when we were kids. Situaciones o Estados en el Pasado: They lived in New York before moving to Los Angeles.

Examples of simple present structure

Affirmative:

  • The cat sleeps on the table.
  • I read books every evening.
  • My brother cooks dinner on fridays.

Negative:

  • She does not (doesn´t) understand Spanish
  • They do not (don´t) watch TV often.
  • He does not (doesn´t) drive to work.

Question:

  • Do you read books every evening?
  • Does the cat sleep on the couch?
  • Does your brother cook dinner on friday?

Structure of present continuos

AFFIRMATIVE:

  • Sujeto + am/is/are + verbo en forma de gerundio (verbo + -ing).

QUESTION:

  • Am/Is/Are + sujeto + verbo en forma de gerundio + ?

NEGATIVE:

  • Sujeto + am/is/are + not + verbo en forma de gerundio.

Affirmative:

  • She is reading a novel.
  • They are playing basketball in the park.
  • I am cooking dinner right now.

Examples of present continuos structure

Negative:

  • I am not going to the gym today.
  • We are not (aren't) staying at that hotel.

Question:

  • Are you studying for the test?
  • Is he talking to his friend?
  • Are they visiting their grandparents this weekend?

  • Regular verb: Sujeto + verbo en pasado (-ed).
  • Irregular verb: Sujeto + verb in irregular form.

QUESTION:

  • Did + sujeto + normal verb + ?

NEGATIVE:

  • Sujeto + did not (didn't) + normal verb.

  • I visited my grandparents last weekend.
  • She finished her book yesterday.
