Disabled Dependent
Dependent children can be enrolled at the time of application if they meet the dependent age limits mandated by the state in which they reside.
Once enrolled, the dependent child will be terminated from the plan at the end of the calendar year in which they reach the dependent age limit. A letter notifying the primary policy holder will be mailed 60 days prior to this termination offering an opportunity to have the dependent sign up for their own policy.
Disabled dependents can be enrolled online or through an agent if they are under their state’s dependent age limit.
- Enrollment by agent: Do not select the disabled box on the application.
- Enrollment online: If the member didn’t indicate they have a disabled dependent, Cigna’s age-out letter will provide instructions on how to retain coverage.
- Disabled dependents over their state’s dependent age limit will need to be added to the plan post-enrollment.
