Culture is the collective set of beliefs, values, customs, behaviors, artifacts, and practices that characterize a group or society. like language, art, and clothing, and intangible elements like norms, traditions and rituals.

What is culture?

The Iceberg Model of Culture highlights that much of culture lies beneath the surface, The visible part of culture includes traits such as language, food, clothing, art, etc. However, the hidden parts of culture include values, beliefs, thought etc.

How is the Iceberg a good analogy for how we see culture?

Values and Beliefs or Communication styles and how they approach conflict or agreement. Norms about relationships, What is considered respectful or disrespectful,. How people relate to authority figures or elders. Whether a culture views life as important or flexible etc.

What deeper cultural traits are more difficult to identify?

Taking without understanding, Using symbols, clothing, or rituals from another culture without understanding their meaning. Exploiting sacred traditions, or religious practices, Or Using cultural elements as stereotypes and Profiting without permission or acknowledgment.

What are some irresponsible and hurtful ways of using elements of another culture?

An awareness of culture makes people behave. It helps interpret cultural elements like art, music, language, etc. Reducing misunderstandings and fosters empathy and appreciation for diversity. Understanding cultural differences can influence social issues like justice and equality.
