PASSIVE VOICE
It is a grammatical structure that is used to focus attention on the object of the action, rather than on the subject performing the action. In other words, passive voice is used to highlight the recipient of the action, rather than the agent performing it.
For example, in the sentence ´´The book was written by Juan´´, the focus is on the book, which is the object of the action, instead of on Juan, who is the subject performing the action.
Simple Present: Used to describe actions that occur regularly or are generally true.
Simple Past: Used to describe actions that occur in the past and have a clear result.
Simple Future: Used to describe actions that occur in the future.
1.- the agent of the action is unknown or is not important: ´´The package was delivered yesterday´´ (it is not mentioned who delivered it)
2.- You want to focus attention on the object of the action: ´´The work of art was restored by a team of specialists´´ (the focus is on the work of art, not on the team that restored it)
3.- it is necessary to avoid mentioning the agent of the action: ´´An error was made in the report´´ (it is not mentioned who made the error)
Example: ´´The task is performed by Juan´´ (the task is the focus, Juan is the one who performed it)
Example: “The new policy will be implemented by the government” (the policy is the focus, the government is the one who will implement it)
Example: ´´The city was destroyed by an earthquake´´ (the city is the focus, the earthquake is what destroyed it)
