Cognos Report

Called Student CBE Test Data under Grade Reports, this report is good to run at the beginning of the year to catch any students who moved.

Test History

This is the best way when you need to look up the results of a known individual student.

Accomodations

The vendors approve, but most times if a Katy ISD committee has determined it for STAAR, the student can have it. Please note it with the order.

Two Exams for Year Credit.

EOC Courses

Check Transcripts carefully and order both part A and part B as appropriate. Averaged grade of 80 on two exams can be used to obtain full credit

These are available and if passed do not require completion of the State EOC Exam.

Award of Credit

Study Guides

RAA puts the score in the test history. Each campus registrar must award credit on the transcript for all high school CBE's including foreign language.

Please ensure these are checked carefully by the student to ensure they completed any reading or work needed prior to testing.

Test Security

Everyone's Responsibility

Handle this test like you would any secure assessment (i.e. STAAR test).

Key Takeaways

Upcoming Webinars and Live Support

What are the social implications? Will it create learning gaps? Credit is not NCAA approved and Grades are unweighted. What impact will this have?

Weigh Pros and Cons

Consult with all relevant staff as Campus Administration has the authority to reject CBE applications

Campus Based Approval

All 1-8 grade acceleration happens in 2025-2026. High School Credit applies in semester of date applied in test history unless student is in Jr. High.

Time of Acceleration

Animate your content and take it to the next level

Remember to add animation! Capture your audience's attention with your content and choose the ideal effect by selecting the element and clicking on the Animation icon, which appears right above.

Oral Accomodations

  • A human reader needs to be available to read over the shoulder or we can request a proctor copy for reading.
  • See the proctor manual for further instructions.
Security Principal #3
Keep materials secure at all times
  • Know exactly what materials you have received and are returning.
  • Campus designee should know the location of materials at all times. (Chain of Custody)
  • Keep them in locked storage with limited access when not using.
  • Proctors should not be given tests to return to ESC.

Passing Standard

80 is the minimum score for success on Credit by Exam. When accelerating a full grade level an 80 must be achieved on all four subject exams of Math, Science, Social Studies and English Language Arts. Rounding is at the discretion of the vendor. 2 Semester High School Courses are aligned with the grading handbook. Full Credit for the course can be obtained with an average of the two semester exams exceeding 80.

Extra Time

  • The UT HS Canvas system times the test automatically.
  • Time and a half is added to the 3 hour window to accomodate for a total of 4.5 hours plus a 20 minute technology buffer.
  • Plan for a lunch to be taken either before or after the exam or provide a bag lunch to be eaten while the exam takes place. Time cannot be stopped for breaks.
Security Principal #1

Keep your knowledge of any of the content on the test to a minimum

Katy ISD Approval Process

Below is the boring content in your presentation: make it engaging

If you want to provide additional information or further develop the content in more detail, you can do so through your oral presentation. We recommend that you practice your voice and rehearse: the best improvisation is always the most practiced!

Deadlines

All CBE applications/orders must meet the deadlines established by The Department of Research, Assessment, and Accountability for the current school year

24-25 Credit by Exam Calendars

Foreign Language Testing

Avant Assessment

These exams are bought as licenses as opposed to individual exams assigned to students. For this reason, there are usually some licenses in the district for more rapid testing in emergency situations. Non Foreign Language exams, however still require processing time with the vendor for each order.

CBE with Prior Instruction

  • High School Courses Only
  • Students must have completed the course and denied credit. (absences, failure etc...)
  • Passing standard is 70 percent, but also max grade of 70 percent.
  • No Charge at this time, although Texas Legislature allows us to charge if used for this purpose.
  • Different Application given. See Below

CBE with Prior Instruction Application

What Credit does the student Need?

Check Transcripts

  • Particularly with high school credit ensure the student does not already have credit or may end up being awarded credit through other means. (Languages and Out of Country Transcripts)
  • Face to Face Credit always takes precedence. Students cannot get credit twice.

Write a great headline

Interactivity and animation can be your best allies when creating tables, infographics, or charts to provide context to information and simplify data for presentation to your audience. We are visual beings and find it easier to 'read' images than written text.
