CURRICULUM (Program)
literary program of cultural and linguistic --> equivalent to that of the A-Level program in English literature in the UK.
Acquisition of skills, analysis, interpretation and critical thinking, enabling students to take into account the contexts that influence their understanding of literary texts.
British language in its heritage dimension: collection of literary works, knowledge of British and English-speaking world cultural, literary and artistic movements
Mediation - take notes, paraphrase, synthetise info for others - lead, group work, facilitate cooperation...
Oral written and interaction skills - exchange informations, points of views, debates, argumentative discussions - writing collaborative texts
Oral and written production skills - writing (using various terminologies specific to literary expressions and art criticism) - presentations
Oral and written reception skills - understanding varied authentic audio or video documents - reading a variety of texts, in-depth study of extracts and complete works
SKILLS
15 minutes (after 20 minutes’ supervised preparation); in English. Candidates are invited to demonstrate an understanding and overview of a given topic area by reference to, and discussion of, a number of previously prepared texts, usually in at least two genres. At the beginning of the 20 minutes’ preparation time, each candidate will select at random a Key Issue card and they will be expected to address that issue in the examination. The oral begins with the candidate’s presentation. It should last for 5 minutes, and the student should speak without interruption from the examiners. This is followed by a discussion between the candidate and examiners for 10 minutes.
Oral examination
4 hours; all answers written in English. Part 1: Shakespeare One question, 1 hour 20 minutes; one-third of total marks Two questions for each of the two Shakespeare plays are set. Candidates are required to answer one question (in two parts) on one of the plays. The questions on each play will be in the form of a commentary on an extract and a follow-up question. Part 2: Individual Works (2 hours 40 minutes) Two questions, 1 hour 20 minutes each; two-thirds of the total marks. A total of 18 questions are set, 2 on each prescribed text. Candidates are required to write answers to 2 questions, chosen from two out of the three following sections : Drama, Prose- Fiction, Poetry
