2. Collect information

When the patient came back 6 months later, the Dentist noticed accelerated stages of periodontal disease that he had intially missedAfter reccomending X-rays and getting permission, he concluded that his previous diagnosis was incorrect and was in fact Early periodontitis that had progressed into periodontal disease

OPTION 1: inform the patient that the previous diagnosis was incorrect and that all treatment plans created in accordance would have to be canceled (pros: the Doctor would be displaying truthfulness and would keep trust between the patient)(cons: the patient and family would be frustrated, possible charges could have already been carried out, the Doctor might be viewed as incompetent)OPTION 2: Refrain from telling the patient that the previous diagnosis was incorrect and instead, continue treatment for that diagnosis, or change treatment without informing patient according to correct diagnosis.(pros: would avoid questions about the Doctor’s experience and reliability, may make money)(cons: would be a violation of the patients rights, would be dishonest, may result in lawsuits or being reported)
